Successful Manitoba Regional Conference

Posted April 28, 2008

The first Regional Conference since our Manitoba Locals were restructured into the new National Health Union was held in Winnipeg on April 18-19.

The participants spent the first morning in an engaging question-and-answer session with National President Tony Tilley, followed that afternoon by an informative workshop on the preparation of Convention resolutions.

The next morning featured a presentation by Robyn Benson, PSAC Regional Executive Vice-President for the Prairies, on the current status of negotiations for a new collective agreement for NHU members.

NHU ‘Dues Checker’ back by popular demand!

Posted April 5, 2008

The NHU ‘Dues Checker’ – one of the most popular Web site features ever introduced by our union – is back!

In 2006, we first posted these series of charts listing dues amounts per Group and Level on a Local-by-Local basis.  We were required to remove it from our Web site during the controversy over the reallocation of our former Income security Program members.

Since the, the demand to make this information permanently available on our Web site has been nothing less than overwhelming.  Now that an initial burst of activity around the restructuring of our union is complete, we have been able to turn our attention to the updating and rebuilding of our ‘Dues Checker’ information.

To access ‘Dues Checker’ information, click on this logo on the main page of our web site:

You’ll first be asked to select a region of the country before arriving at a listing of all UHW Locals in that particular region.  Then, simply select from a list of Locals, which are identified both by number and by geographic location, and check your dues!

Our philosophy at the NHU has always been to provide high quality membership services while recognizing and respecting your hard-earned dollars.  We believe, and we've shown, that careful and efficient use of every dollar of dues income can enable us to steadily increase services while maintaining an effective and financially-healthy union.

New Treasury Board Travel Directive in effect April 1

Posted April 1, 2008

A new federal public service travel directive takes effect on April 1.

The Travel Directive is one of a number of such agreements negotiated between the employer and federal government unions at the National Joint Council.

Established in 1944, the NJC is a consultative body designed to establish uniform employment practices, working conditions and benefits across the federal public service outside of normal collective bargaining.

The Travel Directive is the most popular item on the Treasury Board Web site. It is also the most common NJC grievance. So, if you haven’t already, you may wish to bookmark the following file location on your computer for quick and convenient reference:
