Strong new Health Locals in Halifax, Timmins and Victoria…Calgary next!

Strong new Health Locals in Halifax, Timmins and Victoria…Calgary next!

Posted August 7, 2007

The election of strong executives to restructured NHWU Locals in Halifax, Timmins and Victoria should erase any doubts that our union can prosper and grow despite the sad departure of our long-time Income Security program members.

With the exception of Halifax, all these Locals had previously been a blend of Health and ISP members – with the latter very much the greater majority.

The first photo below shows Wanda Pocock (left) and Amanda Irving, new executive members of Victoria Local 20017, receiving their new official Charter. The photo was taken by outgoing President Mandi Schubert, who will be fondly remembered by her many NHWU friends across the country for having served as what can only be described as a model of energy and dedication.

The original Local Charter, dating back to the 1940s, is shown in this second photo:

Wanda and Amanda, along with their counterparts in Timmins Local 00040 and Halifax Local 80019, have shown a common spirit and determination to carry on and build their Locals. Members in our formerly-composite Local 30014 in Calgary are now in the process of following the same course.

We welcome the participation of these members in the remodelling of our national union that will take place over the next year.
