Ontario Regional Conference highly successful

Chalk up another highly successful NHU Regional Conference; this time in Ontario on June 5 and 6.

National President Tony Tilley was on hand to answer questions as to the future direction of our restructured union. There was also much discussion of this summer’s National Triennial Convention in St. John’s.

The photo above, from left to right, shows a number of the Conference participants: Sarah Caribou; Debbie Linkletter; Rita Lemick; Tony Tilley; Ronda Evans; Pat Todd; and Yvonne Morriss. Bonnie Beaumount-Stewart and Stella Schimmens, who were also in attendance, were not available at the time the photo was taken.

NCR’s turn to turn up bargaining heat

Last month saw a flurry of activity across the country as members of PSAC Component unions – including the NHU – undertook numerous activities to show support for the bargaining teams now locked in a tough round of contract talks with the employer.

Now, it’s the turn of members in the National Capital Region.

As our bargaining agent, the PSAC is organizing a June 19 ‘March for Respect’ in front of Treasury Board’s offices to protest the almost total lack of progress in negotiations over the past year.

The NHU joins the Alliance in urging our Ottawa and Gatineau members to participate in this rally to send a clear message to the employer that we are serious about our contract demands and fully support our negotiations teams.
